Actress Caitlin Carver chatted about starring in the new movie ‘Call of the Void,” which was written and directed by James B. Cox; it is based on a short story by Stephen King.
Taylor Swift once said: “Anything you put your mind to and add your imagination into can make your life a lot better and a lot more fun.” This quote applies to Caitlin Carver, star of “Call of the Void.”
Aside from Carver, “Call of the Void” features Mina Sundwall, Richard Ellis, Christian Antidormi, Ethan Herisse, and Ted Barton.
Synopsis of the movie
The synopsis is: After the tragic death of her brother, Moray (Catlin Carver) retreats to a remote mountain cabin to try and escape her work, her family, and her old life.
However, her quiet retreat is quickly diverted by a college band moving into the unit next door and a suspicious professor studying a local phenomenon involving a mysterious hum.
She discovers that the Hum is a gateway to something otherworldly, unnameable, and once heard–there is no return. The Hum is a sonic experience that asks the question: How can you escape your own senses?
‘Call of the Void’
On starring in “Call of the Void,” she remarked, “It was great. I was looking for an interesting indie movie to do. I had been on a show called ‘Chicago Fire’ for a long time, which was amazing but it was such a big production.”
“So, I was looking for a low-budget indie to sink my teeth into as an actor,” she said. “I found the script and we shot it up at Big Bear. It was a lot of hard work with a small cast and a small crew but we had a good time up there.”
“It was challenging for sure but we worked with what we could. The director owns a cabin up in Big Bear and we filmed at his family’s place, which was really cool. I know this movie was really personal to him and his family, so it was nice to have all of those elements in there,” she elaborated.
Playing Moray in ‘Call of the Void’
On playing Moray in “Call of the Void,” she said, “I liked the journey that she went through the most.”
“In the beginning, she goes up to her family’s cabin in the woods in a quiet time. She quit her job and she is trying to find herself. She is healing from the death of her brother,” she explained.
“Moray is going from this space of uncertainty and the unknown and she is searching to take control and be strong for herself and other people,” she noted.
“I think it was a cool journey to go on because there were many different elements and experiences that she went through,” she added.
‘The Matchmaker’s Playbook’
Carver recalled doing “The Matchmaker’s Playbook” with Nick Bateman and Tyler Johnson. “That was fun,” she admitted. “It was cool to bring a book to life. I had never done that before.”
“Nick Bateman is super fun; he had it a very easy and great experience. Tyler Johnson is great too,” she said.
‘The Rehearsal’
On being a part of the Emmy award-winning digital drama series “The Rehearsal,” she said, “I met Jaclyn Bethany when she did her short film ‘The Delta Girl,’ which I starred in. That was a really great movie and it was so fun to do. Then, she brought me on to ‘The Rehearsal’ too.”
“I would love to work with Jaclyn Bethany again,” she added.
‘I, Tonya’ movie
On starring in “I, Tonya” as Nancy Kerrigan (opposite Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding), Carver said, “That was a blast! It was probably one of my favorite movies I’ve ever done. It’s such a good film and I was really lucky to be a part of it. To play a real-life person was so cool.”
The digital age
On being a performer in the digital age, Carver said, “It is different. It has its pros and cons. In today’s time, people are in the digital world.”
“We watch things on streaming services, and that’s the new normal and we are getting more adjusted to it. The digital age definitely has its pros and cons. It is what it is,” she acknowledged.
Advice for young and emerging actors
For young and aspiring actors, she encouraged them to “Trust yourselves.”
“That’s my biggest advice because I really struggled with that in the beginning,” she said.
“I grew up dancing before I started acting, and I would always question everything there. So, trust yourselves and don’t be afraid to speak up about what you believe in,” she added.
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “Spontaneous.”
“I am taking things day by day. I am allowing myself to relax in the unknown and just trust whatever will come to me,” she explained.
Superpower of choice
Her superpower of choice would be “teleportation.”
“I would like to be able to see my family more because they live so far, so my superpower would be teleportation,” she said.
Success
Regarding her definition of the word success, she shared, “Success means feeling happy and proud of what you are doing.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Call of the Void’
For fans and viewers, she remarked about the new movie, “I hope they just enjoy the journey. I think it’s a really unique movie where it plays with sounds and senses along with the horror in it.”
“I haven’t really seen anything like that. I want people to enjoy the journey and just watch something new and creative,” she concluded.
