Rock band splits with original singer: ‘This was a difficult decision’

A Grammy-nominated rock band is splitting with a longtime member.

I Prevail announced Thursday that original singer Brian Burkheiser will no longer be part of the metalcore group. In a statement, they said they were “mutually parting ways.”

“This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right one and we are all grateful for the 10 epic years we shared together. We wish Brian nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,” I Prevail said.

According to Blabbermouth, Burkheiser had been the clean vocalist for I Prevail since the band’s formation in 2013. He stepped away from touring last year after undergoing surgery for Eagle syndrome, a rare condition caused by an elongated or disfigured styloid process, leading to pain in the throat that radiates to the neck, ear or face.

“Rest assured, we will continue to deliver the high-energy shows that we’ve made a pillar of our band, and we will continue to perform all the bangers from our catalogue. All scheduled shows will go on exactly as planned,” I Prevail continued, adding that new music is “coming soon.”

Co-vocalist/growler Eric Vanlerberghe took over lead vocals in I Prevail in Burkheiser’s absence with backup from guitarist Dylan Bowman. The band said “Eric will continue to be the powerhouse frontman you’ve come to know and love” with Bowman assisting at live shows.

I Prevail is a Michigan-based rock band known for its mix of post-hardcore, metalcore, pop-punk, hard rock and nu metal music. The group has released three studio albums featuring hits like “Scars,” “Bow Down,” “Hurricane,” “Breaking Down” and a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.”
