Amanda Shires has released her critically acclaimed, highly anticipated new album Nobody’s Girl, out today on ATO Records- LISTEN HERE.The GRAMMY Award-winning, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has been praised by fans and critics alike for her powerful new collection of deeply personal songs about heartbreak and loss, resilience, self-discovery and empowerment.
Produced by Lawrence Rothman, Nobody’s Girl features singles “Lately,” “A Way It Goes” and “Piece Of Mind.” NPR’s All Things Considered spoke to Amanda about the album and noted, “Art is always personal. Good art, at least, is always personal. But sometimes art can be deeply, maybe even painfully personal – revealing, vulnerable, emotionally raw. That is certainly the case for singer and fiddle player Amanda Shires and her new album Nobody’s Girl.” No Depression said it’s “a record where the cracks are visible, and striking in their beauty,” while Garden & Gun called it “moving.” Popmatters declared, “Listening to the personal journey Shires lays out on this record, I was reminded of the now-iconic 1997 Fleetwood Mac performance of ‘Silver Springs’, which climaxes with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham looking into each other’s eyes… With ‘Nobody’s Girl’, Amanda Shires has created something as steely as the gaze that Nicks pores into Buckingham. It’s hard to look away.”
Amanda explains, “This album doesn’t just explore heartbreak, it interrogates it, breaking down every moment of loss and rebuilding something stronger in its place.” She adds, “I had to make this record. I didn’t know any other way to work through it. Some days I felt strong. Some days I felt wrecked. Writing and playing were the only ways to keep moving. Every song holds a piece of what I lost and what I had to find again.” Watch Amanda discuss the record in more detail on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now Podcast on YouTube.
Nobody’s Girl was recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, TN, with Fred Eltringham and Julian Dorio on drums, Dominic Davis on bass, Peter Levin on keys, Zach Setchfield on guitar, and Rothman on guitar as well. Amanda also tracked at Rothman Recorders in Los Angeles, CA, with Jay Bellerose (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Jimbo Hart (bass), Joe Kennedy (piano, guitar), and Rothman again on guitar. In addition to the fiddle, Amanda can also be heard playing tenor guitar and ukulele.
Amanda is currently supporting Aly & AJ on an extensive North American tour and will also join the Allman Betts Family Revival tour later this fall.
