Jaicy Elliot talks about starring in the Hallmark film ‘Love on the Amazon’

Jaicy Elliot chatted about starring in the new Hallmark rom-com “Love on the Amazon,” where she is starring alongside Rafael de la Fuente.

The synopsis is: Claire (Jaicy Elliot) travels to Brazil and hires Danny (Rafael de la Fuente), a riverboat captain, to help her deliver an important message for her sister Amelia, a marine biologist who is studying pink dolphins on the Amazon River.

The movie will premiere on Saturday, January 17th on the Hallmark Channel, and it will stream on the next day on the app Hallmark+.

Filming on the Amazon River

On her experience filming “Love on the Amazon,” Jaicy remarked, “The experience of shooting the movie felt like ‘Survivor.’ We were really dropped into the middle of the Amazon River.”

“We shot most of the movie on this boat,” she said. “We had 15 days of shooting and nine on them were on a boat, so it had a lot of challenges… especially when you put a crew on a boat under the sun.”

“I feel like it was as much an adventure for us as it was for our characters (Claire and Danny),” she added.

Playing Claire in ‘Love on the Amazon’

On playing Claire, Jaicy stated, “I think what I resonated most with Claire is this willpower that she has to push herself outside of her own boundaries.”

“That mirrors with the reality of what we went through in shooting this movie because of the circumstances where we individually had to push the boundaries of what comfort can look like, and what working on a movie can look like,” she elaborated.

“Overall, I really appreciated the fact that Claire is a go-getter and that she just makes things happen no matter what, so that was inspiring,” she added.

Jaicy on the Amazon River as its own ‘character’ in the movie

Jaicy felt that the Amazon River was its own “character” in this movie, and rightfully so. “The Amazon truly was a character in in terms of the look, but also the background sound that is omnipresent… you always have it there. As actors, the Amazon brought out this raw honesty out of us.”

“I think it does the same thing for the characters, so you can’t disregard the fact that we are in the middle of this really warm winter, where it was still very humid and very hot,” she noted.

“So, we had to suffer as someone would on set who presents challenges,” she said with a sweet laugh.

Lessons learned from the screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Jaicy shared, “I definitely want to go back to the Amazon like my co-star Rafael would want to go back as well.”

“For me, it revived the sense of wanting to be in the world a little more,” she said. “I think we all get so wrapped up into our lives and the structures that we have and the obligations that we can sign up for.”

“Sometimes, it does take that little bit of ignition to just push yourself far enough to actually go and interact with the world. It is such a big place,” she observed.

“I moved to the United States with the hopes of someday traveling to South America. Ever since I’ve been in Los Angeles, I haven’t actually taken the time to make that a priority to expend myself and go challenge myself in those ways,” she elaborated.

“In the end, the script is very much about exploring yourself through travel. It has reminded me that I want to be part of the bigger picture —the worldwide picture — not just my little bubble,” she explained.

Closing thoughts on ‘Love on the Amazon’

For fans and viewers, she expressed, “Hallmark is always a great company to work with. They are so easy to communicate with, and they foster love, acceptance and community, and you feel that in the movies that they make.”

“I think more than ever today in this world, people need a break from the dark reality of what we face. So, I’m always thrilled to bring a little bit of joy and happiness to people. So, this is it,” she concluded.
