Following a massive UK and European run that wrapped up on July 3, the stateside kickoff brought a stacked bill featuring Boundaries and Superheaven, culminating in an unforgettable night of genre-blending mayhem under a perfectly timed full moon.
The True Headliner: Thomas the Cat
While the music was undeniably world-class, the unexpected breakout star of the night wasn’t even on the official lineup. In between sets, an apartment tenant in a neighboring building overlooking the parking lot managed to whip the entire crowd into an absolute frenzy. Her secret weapon? Holding her cat up to the glass.
The crowd went wild as the cat “waved” and bowed to the audience. When tenants in a neighboring building on the opposite side of the lot poked their heads out to see what the commotion was, the crowd instantly locked into a literal “hive mind” mentality, chanting “Where’s your cat?!” over and over. When no adorable kitten was presented, the entire vicinity collectively booed them. We quickly christened the four-legged star Thomas, and for a brief moment, Thomas the Cat was the biggest celebrity in Detroit.
Denzel Curry Sets the Asphalt Ablaze
Once the jokes subsided, Denzel Curry ran onto the stage as if leaving a literal trail of fire behind him. Having last seen the band locally at the Russell Industrial Center in 2024, the sheer scale of the Majestic parking lot crowd made it clear how exponentially their fanbase has exploded. Their signature mix of frantic hardcore punk and crushing, screeching breakdowns absolutely flattened the venue.
The crowd’s primal energy even manifested in another hilarious running joke: one dedicated audience member repeatedly barked like a dog between songs, eventually convincing half the surrounding pit (including this reviewer) to join in. Coupled with Thomas the Cat, it was the perfect internet-ready meme for an unforgettable night.

The undeniable climax of the night came exactly as fans predicted. Denzel Curry hopped back on stage to join Knocked Loose for their collaborative track, “Hive Mind.” Seeing the song performed live on was nothing short of iconic.
