In the landscape of Detroit’s electronic music scene, few artists embody the spirit of reinvention quite like DUANE. A fixture in the city’s underground for over a decade, the Detroit Fine Arts High School alumnus has continuously shifted shapes, from his early days performing as Duane the Teenage Weirdo (a lo-fi, performance-art project that even caught the ear of Jack White) to his current status as one of Detroit’s most iconic ghettotech and tech-house performers.
Taking inspiration from pop icons like Madonna and Britney Spears, DUANE approaches every era and album as a completely new concept and evolutionary step. He writes and produces all his own tracks, crafting custom backing tracks for high-octane live shows. His signature sound bridges early-2000s pop sensibilities, hip-house vocal delivery, and the relentless, raw energy of Detroit ghettotech.
Opening the Pride Stage at Arts Beats & Eats (09/04)
Royal Oak’s Arts Beats & Eats festival marked a milestone by introducing its first-ever Pride Stage, situated outside Pronto Bar; a long-standing cornerstone of Royal Oak’s LGBTQ+ community. DUANE had the honor of opening the stage, setting a high standard for the day.
Far from a standard DJ set, DUANE proved himself to be a complete performer. Joined by three backing dancers, he executed tight, perfectly choreographed dance routines and breakdancing breaks while singing and rapping live over his tracks. During one of his performance sets, DUANE broke the barrier between artist and audience, inviting crowd members onto the stage to dance alongside him and his crew.
The set closed with his (fittingly) iconic anthem “D MANOOGIAN JIT” (featured on his latest Spotify release) yelling “Detroit Got the Power!”, complete with a saxophone solo instrumental as he and his dancers exited the stage.

High Fashion & High Energy at Hamtramck Labor Day Fest (09/05)
The following day at the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival, DUANE delivered another high-energy set with a striking visual concept. He took the stage clad in a slick black latex bodysuit adorned with a bold white Detroit “D” across his chest, before making a mid-set wardrobe change into a paint-splattered white jersey reading “Are You Afraid of Detroit?”
His set again showcased his interactive style, pulling festival-goers onstage during soon-to-be-released “D NU DANCE” and blazing through fan-favorite singles like “Up D Scoe”.
