June 11th (Harpo’s Concert Theatre – Detroit, MI) – It was Saturday night in Detroit and Enuff Z’Nuff was in town which that alone was enough for me to be excited about. However, the show that night was at Harpo’s, and this would be my first time catching a concert there in a little over two years. Between Covid shutting down the touring industry for close to a year and juggling jobs and life I just wasn’t able to hit any shows at this legendary Detroit venue. That was about to change tonight.

This run of shows was titled the ‘Glam Slam Metal Jam’ tour and featured The Midnight Devils, Pretty Boy Floyd and Enuff Z’nuff. I arrived at the event just as The Midnight Devils were finishing up their last song. Though it wasn’t much to form a solid opinion, I liked what I heard, and they definitely fit the style and type of music that this tour was all about. I had not seen Pretty Boy Floyd in twenty plus years. I’m thinking it was around 1996 and it may have been even longer. I definitely had flashbacks to being in my late teens and early twenties and listening to all those Los Angeles bands like Motley Crue, Pretty Boy Floyd, Enuff Z’Nuff and LA Guns. Steve Summers still sounded good on vocals, and the band was solidly backing him up with some punch. It was definitely a welcome surprise to hear so many songs off their debut album ‘Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz’. The songs ’48 Hours to Rock’ and ‘Your Momma Won’t Know’ were a few favorite moments for me. It was really good to see them live again after so many years.

I spent some time after Pretty Boy Floyd’s set catching up with an old friend who happened to be working door security that night at the venue and then I heard Enuff Z’Nuff’s intro and it was time to head down to hang out by the stage. I have lost track of how many times I have seen this band since they first came out on the scene, but I know it’s a lot. Easily a dozen if not more. I was fortunate enough to have met Chip Z’Nuff about 10-12 years ago and have been friends with him ever since. Most recently, we talked on the phone for an interview I did for a radio telethon that happened back in January to help one of the big local internet radio stations and he gave me some updates and promoted a few upcoming happenings. One of the things that I was most excited about was the tour that they are going to be doing in the near future where they play all the songs from the Hardrock Nite album (all Beatles songs or members solo projects). I mention this because there were a few more covers in their set that night and of course, they were all Beatles songs. From the show opening ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ through the encore which was ‘Fly High Michelle’ and ‘New Thing’, it was another solid performance from Chip and the guys. I definitely enjoyed the set more than usual and it was an extra ear pleasure to hear covers of ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Eleanor Rigby’. I also want to point out what a fun and talented guitar duo Tory and Tony are. Killer stage presence and both great players.

Well, that’s another review in the books, or I guess on the net would be more accurate. It’s always a fun time when Enuff Z’Nuff is in town, and it’s always a pleasure to catch up with Chip, even if we don’t get to hang out for long due to schedules. Keep rockin’ boys, until the next one! – Howie
