Saint Andrew’s Hall Detroit hosted a fantastic evening of music on what would be the first gorgeous night in Detroit this year as far as weather is concerned.  Michigander would bring their “It Will Never Be The Same” tour back to their home town.  It was nice to see a sold out crowd welcome these guys back to the mitten.

Michigander is hosting Abby Holiday on this tour who is promoting her new release “I’m ok no I’m not”. I found Abby to be particularly talented.  Her music career is in its beginning stages and I’m sure it will be expanding exponentially.  A soft subtle voice with well written music full of depth.  I listened to her whole set and while this is not my typical genre of music,  I found her tunes to be quite enjoyable.   While at first listen,  the songs seem fun and uplifting a closer listen reveals an insight to heart aches, self doubt, and depression.  She tackles a lot of conflict and feelings in her songs.   Another aspect I noticed was her pure look of joy while playing to a full house that was really feeling her vibes.  Looking forward to hearing more from this one.

Now I really hate to admit this but until their publicist brought them to my attention this year,  I had not heard of Michigander.  Which is wild being that they’ve played festivals and venues all around my area.  But no,  not even a peep on my social media.  Either the algorithms failed me or I was unaware of the rock I was living under. Now even though this music isn’t my usual tastes,  it’s not far off as these guys really rock.  But here I was going into this show nearly blind and man do I regret not hearing them sooner.

Jason Singer, frontman of the band, seems at first glance a very unassuming profile to fit the term “frontman”. I assure you,  looks can be quite deceiving.  The rocker has a fantastic voice that carries the finely tuned band.  He makes music that varies from uplifting positivity to struggles from within.  He did a great job addressing the crowd and while I hadn’t heard his music,  the crowd definitely had as they sang along word for word.   The fans were completely enamored with the music coming from this powerful group.

I really need to thank their publicist, Bari, for reaching out and having us cover the show as Michigander has gained another fan.  Michiganders music is being featured daily on Alt 98.7 gaining a lot of momentum.  The songwriting and performance was undeniable.   The energy Michigander puts out will definitely spread quickly in the years to come as I feel their music won’t be limited to one set genre.   This music has potential to reach a multitude of generations and people from all walks of life.  Even an old metal fan like me.

Thanks to Saint Andrews Hall, Michigander, Abby Holliday and Mother Nature for creating the perfect evening.
