U.S. metalcore band, August Burns Red headlined. It doesn’t matter who they tour with. I will always go see them whenever I can. Two minutes into their set I was already grinning from ear to ear. They described “Back Burner” as, “An oldie but a goodie.” Ain’t that the truth. I absolutely love the breakdown during “Invisible Enemy.” They have a new album called Season of Surrender dropping on June 5th, so make sure you check that out. They played two of the singles from that upcoming release. I love “Bloodletter” because it is super heavy. The highlight of the set for me was “The Eleventh Hour.” Jake said that he got a DM asking for an all-girls mosh pit, so that was the song to make it happen. “Empire” has always been one of my favorite August Burns Red songs. I love the mix of diverse sounds during “Mariana’s Trench.” Consequently, that song is always a highlight. After Matt’s drum solo, the band came back out and said, “Detroit, you know this one.” The song they were referring to was “Composure.” Then they ended with “White Washed,” which has been their closing song for a long time at their shows. As far as I’m concerned, August Burns Red is the best metalcore band on the planet in terms of their musicianship. I can’t think of another metalcore band that is better at their instruments. August Burns Red is also a spectacular live band. This was an excellent tour package. Even though I was only really familiar with August Burns Red, all four bands were fantastic. Since August Burns Red has a new album coming out next month, hopefully they will be back soon.
Australian post-hardcore artist, The Amity Affliction was next. This was my 4th time seeing them. I like the song “Drag the Lake,” which was the 3rd song they played. I had just seen them a handful of times because they shared the stage with other bands I like. They were very solid at this show. The Amity Affliction are co-headlining the tour in support of their newest album, House of Cards.
U.S. metalcore artist, Boundaries hit the stage next. Although I was aware of them before, this is my first time hearing their music. They’re an extremely heavy hardcore band with breakdowns galore. Great live set – I am now a fan. Oh btw, someone needs to give these guys a hug.
Australian metalcore artist, Heavensgate opened the show. For me, they are a brand new band. I liked their set a lot, even though they did not play very long. I will definitely check them out some more.
